Queen Mary University of London has reassessed 25 clinical trials done on immunity and vitamin D, combining data from 14 countries and including around 11,000 people in the studies.

The results, published in the British Medical Journal, suggested that adding vitamin D to your diet could save a significant amount of money for the NHS. The authors of the study suggested a link between vitamin D deficiency in the winter and the risk of colds, flu and other respiratory infections.

Vitamin D supplementation showed a benefit in respect of immunity. The authors said their findings settle once and for all the question of whether an increase in colds and flu in the winter is partly due to a vitamin D deficiency.

The research stated that D3 is the most effective form of vitamin D.
